woo! i need to update this

my ciao has seen a lot of neglect lately.  mainly because i got two maxis and i’ve been obsessing over them.

totally forgot that my ciao is TITLED

so, it’s time to get a 13.13, port the stock cylinder like an athena, and get an exhaust on it… i mounted up the other new tire i had for it today and got hit by the fact that this bike is ready to accept a pa plate!  revolutionary.

so, the engine already has a modded crank, and fresh bearings and seals.  all it needs is a little aid with respiration.. air in/out efficiency.

here’s a real small picture of me working on the ciao this spring

until next time, america…

took the ciao to ohio

back to where it came from!  had fun, no cops, and i went to waffle house!   flat roads!

on the stock exhaust and a 10mm carb it ran a blistering 30 mph… all freaking day.  i need more carb and better exhaust.  i have a trick or two up my sleeve… stay tuned.  comment if you read this!

having more fun

so, i got my engine all together.  i dont really have a ton to post, but i need to update this blog.  my ciao will probably be done after i get a nice exhaust.  then its on to my pinto!  which i guess i’ll cover in a seperate blog.  i should make an all encompassing blog.

anyways

my engine is all together, as is the rest of my bike.  it stops and goes, bla bla bla.  10mm carb, 70 jet, brad’s leovince pipe, it does ~32,  my guess.  i rode all over pittsburgh today with brad, it was a great time.  here’s a video!  its 16 minutes long!

so, i need to get those malossi clutch shoes and springs, get a pipe, and bore my carb.  then i believe im done…  and then it shall be time to start on the pinto, oh boy!  i cant wait…  50:50 here i come.

sad sight

saw this on moped army today…

hit a wall

yeah, i thought my brakes worked, too.

no, i didnt literally hit a wall.  but i cant get the bearings off of my crank!  neither can brad!   i know some people at a machine shop, and i know them well.  so it’s an easy fix.  oh boy were my bearings trashed though!

so today at brads house, with his guidance, i cut my crank, enlarged my intake, showed off my cylinder, and showed charles how i dont run a head gasket, while brad filled my hub with oil and changed my brake shoe.  i also got to see his sick bike, and his friend’s bikes.

we also took charles’s ciao for posterity, and it got new handlebars and throttle cable while it was there.  i need a set of cable cutters, they’re so cool.

so here are some pictures, wordpress is jackin me around and i cant put text between or after them.

savin cash

so today i did some work, saved some cash dollars.  first thing i did was make this air filter

and after that, i made this freehand drawing of a base gasket using gasket paper as a canvas, i felt it was the thing to do at the time.

then, i filed down the jb weld i used on the parts of the gasket surface that i gouged with the dremel while porting, and cleaned up the ports.

and finally, i cut up my clutch shoes even more.  i’ll bet im gonna need heavier springs, too.  overall a productive day

UPDATE!!!!!

… APPARENTLY NO ONE GIVES A SHIT, SOOO FUCK EM!

sorry, tourettes guy is really cool.

anywho, i met a great vespa guy online, and hes local, so hes gonna be a huge help to me.  his blog is here, check it out!

i ordered $150 worth of stuff on treats today, cables, housings, bearings, seals, gaskets, brakes, sava mc11s, tubes… all that.  working on porting my stock cylinder more, no pics yet.  the crank will be cut, case bored, but i’ll run the 10mm carb as a 10mm for now, just to see what i get.

im a huge believer in small carburetors, i can make them work very well.  i have a 12mm dellorto sha on my 67cc motorized bicycle (62 jet if anyone needs to know) with a home made quick foam filter, and i’m hitting high 30s.  compare that to the 26 i got on the stock carb…

anyways, once i get the parts and i head on over to brad’s place to get some work done, i’ll update with more pics.  for now, enjoy me sitting on my 51V, and my new seat.  saved $35 on the seat, what now.

progress

getting along with this thing.  big issue now, my seat is trashed.  broken and the saddle is tearing badly.  puch maxi bicycle type seat may be going on it for comfort, and i need a small seat.  as mentioned in a prev. post, need the rack.

today i started by lightening my clutch shoes a tiny bit more, i know more is coming, maybe even malossi shoes.  it needs to hit at 3000-3500, right now its hitting at 2500-2600 and stock is around 2000.  may need springs too, but i’mgetting there.

i had already drilled a couple of holes which didnt do much.  i have a drill press now, so more are to come.  i also cut a tiny chunk off with my dremel, that didnt do much.  it was only 5 grams or so, i dunno.

new hardware too, and much more to come.  grade 8 stuff, yellow zinc plated.  i have stainless but i like the yellow a little bit more, and if rust happens i’ll just replace it.  no more metric stuff unless it HAS to be.  you can see the old wimpy m6 crap the previous owner had installed.  every bolt was different, shouldered or with a small head.  no more!  this bike is full of TERRIBLE old mismatched hardware that wasnt installed right.

new new plans

so new plans, due to monetary restrictions….

  • still boring carb to 12.7mm
  • long choke lever if treats ever gets em back in stock
  • bore intake to about 13.  just enough to match the carb and then a tiny bit
  • all new hardware for neat appearance
  • gotta decide on gearing
  • modify stock cylinder, new rings
  • leave the crank stock.  new bearings
  • seal it all up
  • exhaust.  proma circuit!  heard its the best around, nothin’s gonna keep it down.
  • new fluid in the rear hub, im gonna guess heavy ass gear oil?  ill ask a ciao guy
  • new tubes, tires, brakes, cables
  • fix the wiring, solder to stop switch etc… (BYPASS BRAKE LIGHT IGNITION GROUND)
  • take a lot of material out of the clutch shoes
  • get a seat of some kind on there, low but short, i need the rack to be usable.  fix the stock one even?
  • external condenser for insurance
  • still need the leleu brake plate, treats is out.  piss.
  • new head light assembly, thats one of the very last things.
  • polish, wax, armor all…

dunno what else right now.  things aren’t all good in my life right now, so i dont know when this is all gonna work out.  stay tuned.
